Tabsposition text at specific horizontal locations in a frame. The defaulttab settings depend on the Horizontal ruler units setting in theUnits & Increments preferences dialog box.
Tabs applyto an entire paragraph. The first tab you set deletes all defaulttab stops to its left. Subsequent tabs delete all default tabs betweenthe tabs you set. You can set left, center, right, and decimal orspecial-character tabs.

When youdo this in a vertical text frame, the Tabs dialog box also becomesvertical. When the Tabs dialog box direction is not consistent withthe text frame direction, click on the magnet icon to snapthe rulers to the current text frame.
If the topof the frame is visible, the Tabs dialog box snaps to the currenttext frame and matches its width to the current column.
When thetop of a horizontal frame is displayed, the Tabs dialog box willsnap to the top of the current text frame, and the width will changeto conform to the width of the current column. When there is a text insertionpoint in a vertical frame, the Tabs dialog box will snap to theright side of the text frame, and the length displayed will conformto the length of the current column.
Click the magnet icon onthe Tabs dialog box. The Tabs dialog box snaps to the top of thecolumn that includes the selection or the insertion point.
